I made this one in the beginning of January. I used Guesso (a kind of paste that I apply to the canvas in thick layers on the places I want. It is very easy to use and dries fairly quickly) on the base to give it texture. I then applied different acrylic paints to give the effect wanted.
I love the Human body. I always say it. Since being a mum though, I have seen the influence that the media has on the fashion, adverts and everything we see and do basically. It really hurts me to see that young people, and generally women, are so influenced by things they read and see on the way their shape is supposed to be, that I wanted to work on this particular subject.
A thin body is pretty, but I can say the same for a curvy body, or a "fat" body. I do not like to use the word fat though. For me, our body are important because they Carry us. The body is a vessel for the mind to go where it needs to go. I have a slightly "fat" body, I am curvy. And I love it. Why is it that society cannot see that? "Pretty" is a word. A woman does not need to be slim to be pretty. She needs to be comfortable with herself. And that is something that so many of our young women do not see.
This work is dedicated to all these women that think they are not good enough, not pretty enough to be comfortable with themselves. You have to be happy. You have ONE life. You need to live it. Fully.
This painting means a lot to me. I am so happy with the result that I got on this canvas.
P.S.: I say women, because the media usually focuses on women for this subject. But I very much believe that men are in the same situation. I am currently working on an idea, that I will share with you soon.
P.P.S.: There is another story behind the painting, that I may let you know another day :)
I hope you enjoy this work. As always, let me know what you think, subscribe to my mailing list for more information.
